Do you filter application outbound traffic? Empty Do you filter application outbound traffic?

I've seen many people especially on security sites who worry too much about what app on their computer connects to the interent. My question is why? What's the point if everything on your machine is trusted why do you put so much effort trying to sift though connection requests.? I view it as an excuse for a bad security approach where users are simply closing the door once the horse has bolted.
